When parents drop their kids at school, they leave their precious little ones at the responsibility of school staff. But no matter how attentive the staff may be, kids get themselves into one or the other problems. Here we discuss four of those common ways they may hurt themselves:
- Slip, trip, and fall
Majority accidents in educational facilities involve slip, trip, and fall cases. These are the most common and apparent injuries kids experience in classrooms, corridors, playground, or stairs etc. But just a little attention paid on securing the windows, floors and the equipment can help avoid such accidents most of the times.
- Accidental impact
Kids regularly keep getting bumped into things and spaces. This is especially common while playing, but such accidents may happen anytime and anywhere. Kids at school may run into furniture, walk into a wall, get hit by objects (such as playing gear on the field), and trip over appliances. Usually, these struck by or against injuries are not too dangerous. But school administration must always keep a check on kids and immediately call for medical assistance if the matter is concerning.
- Finger entrapment
Unlike one’s home, a school may be full of doors. This increases the risk of injuries, especially with unprotected doors and while opening or shutting those. Kids between the age of four and fourteen are more susceptible to trapping their precious fingers on either the hinge side or knob side of the door. At times it may lead to swelling, bruises, cuts, and other less severe injuries. But if hit more ruthlessly, it may lead to profuse bleeding, excruciating pain, and/or surgical procedures. Merely installing door finger guards for schools is an affordable and durable solution to keep such injuries from happening and also reducing the legal liabilities.
- Unintended strangulation
Strangulation often results in fatal accidents. It may more frequently occur from clothing drawstrings, swing chains, or jump ropes. But it is up to the school authorities to keep their premises safe and appropriate for use by kids who may be carelessly playing or running around when you are not watching.
So these are the four most common injuries that may take place in the school premises. In some cases, carelessness of the kids may land them in uncomfortable situations. But sometimes negligent school staff may also be at fault especially when there is defective equipment, chemical exposure, no warning signs, or if heavy-duty door hinge finger protectors are not fitted. If you are a facility owner, make sure no child is injured due to an accident that may have been avoided. Take aggressive precautionary measures and secure your facility!
